Mindful Eating Workshop Series with Jaime Brault

5-part series is held on alternating Fridays from 6:15-7:30pm

Part 1 of 5: January 13th                                           eating_mindfully.jpg

Part 2 of 5: January 27th

Part 3 of 5: February 24th

Part 4 of 5: March 16th

Part 5 of 5: March 30th

In our yoga practice we learn to connect to our mind and body on our mat, creating an awareness that allows us to take better care of ourselves as we move through yoga poses. We cultivate a sense of love, respect, and gratitude towards our bodies. Imagine how much better we would feel if we could bring this attention and care to how we feed ourselves.

"Eating Mindfully" by Susan Albers is a wonderful book that guides readers through simple mindful eating techniques that encourage them to explore their relationship with food. In our five-part workshop series, we will discover how our yoga practice can help us create new, life-changing eating habits and support and inspire others who strive towards the same goal. Classes will include a short, all-levels asana practice and an open discussion of our experiences with the reading and mindful eating exercises. The at-home reading is brief (20-30 pages) and is done between classes which range from 2-4 weeks apart. The mindful eating exercises are also practiced between classes and workshop members can decide which and how many they are inspired to try. $95 for all 5 classes; Registration Required. Workshop price does not include book. 25% of the proceeds will be donated to the Worcester County Food Bank!  "Eating Mindfully" can easily be purchased at Amazon.

Many of us begin building up this tension at a young age from working on the computer, driving, and having a stressful daily life.  Over time, chronic muscle tension in the neck and shoulders can lead to more serious conditions such as disc and nerve compression between the cervical vertebrae, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, and frozen shoulder. In this workshop you will learn simple, gentle exercises that you can do on a daily basis to keep your neck and shoulders pain-free. Registration Required. $25 before 3/18/12; $30 afterward.

Forward bends offer a tremendous opportunity to settle down and quiet the mind,  but not if your hamstrings are in revolt and/or pulling on your lower back. To address these issues we’ll use the wall to move through a sequence designed to release the back body, so you can truly enjoy the benefits of these calming postures. Expect to leave class refreshed and centered. $65 Pre-registration is required.

“Yoga Nidra for Stress Reduction" with Deb Newman

Next Date TBD.

Yoga Nidra is a state of conscious deep sleep designed to facilitate meditative introversion and a deep relaxation. One hour of effective Yoga Nidra technique is reported to be

equivalent to 3-4 hours of quality sleep when practiced on a regular basis. This ancient technique allows you to dive deep into your subconscious to “undo” old patterns and habits with intention. Body, mind and spirit benefit from this age-old yogic practice. Body and breath awareness are fostered through guided instructions while lying passively on your back.

Yoga Nidra can:  Minimize tension; train and relax the mind; counteract stress; awaken creativity; enhance learning and memory; promote willpower.

No prior yoga experience necessary. Registration required. Space is limited.

“Upside Down from the Inside Out”  Inversion Workshop with Jaime Brault

Next Date TBD.
