Whether you are new to Absolute Yoga or are a longtime student, it is always helpful to review Yoga and Studio Etiquette so that you may both have and contribute to an optimal environment for your practice.
Advise your teacher about injuries (past or present) or health conditions that may influence or cause discomfort in your Yoga practice. No injury is too small or minor to mention. All Absolute Yoga instructors are well qualified to offer you modifications and variations of most postures to allow your practice to be a safe one.
Turn off cell phones or pagers before arriving at the studio. If your cell is left on vibrate, please do not bring it in the classroom at all or the retail room as the vibration can be disruptive in a quiet class. Please do not make calls in the studio or reception area.
Remove your shoes in the reception area prior to entering the classroom. We appreciate your extra effort to keep the studio clean.
Arrive early for class. Being at the studio with 10 minutes to spare can go a long way towards reaping the most benefits for your body and mind. You'll be glad to have time to settle in and center yourself from your day. Please note that some classes have popular time-slots so arriving early is the best way to ensure that you will be able to get into a class that regularly fills up. Latecomers will not be accomodated if the class is underway.
Remove your socks before you begin your yoga practice; this is for safety and insurance reasons as well as to prevent slipping.
Yoga mats are required for all styles of Yoga and Yoga/Pilates classes. If you do not have a mat, we have mats available to rent for $2 at the studio. Exercise mats are not a safe alternative to a proper yoga mat.
If you are in the reception area waiting for a another class to end, please keep your voice very soft as the class in session is likely in a quiet relaxation and appreciates your sensitivity to keeping the outside noise at a minimum.
If you are inside the classroom prior to the start of your class, please keep your voice to a whisper as the other students appreciate your awareness that they may be taking this time to meditate and center.
Please do not wear fragrance to class as fellow students may be sensitive or allergic to scents.
Enjoy what each practice offers you. Every instructor imparts their special talents, skill and creativity to make each class and style unique. Thank you for being open and receptive to the variety of styles and gifts that your instructor contributes to your class experience. Absolute Yoga is grateful to have a staff with a wide range of experience and knowledge. You are sure to find that each class or style will reflect the contributions both the individual instructor and the students present to provide an optimal environment for growth and depth in your practice.
Reflect on the poses you practiced, which aspects of your practice you felt resistance and which aspects felt more open and supple. Respect that each class will draw forth unique limitations, strengths, abilities, and discoveries about your body and mind. Understanding the challenges and growth that is derived from your class will enhance your awareness and nurture your practice.
