New students are always welcome at Absolute Yoga. Basic Yoga is geared toward beginners and those wishing to refresh their practice. In addition, Strength & Flexibility level 1 classes are open to all levels of participants.

What should I bring? A yoga mat, towel, water, and an open mind! Yoga mats are available for rental ($2) and purchase ($25-$55).

What do I wear? Wear something that stretches and you find comfortable. Yoga is practiced barefoot. As the room is heated, you may wish to dress in layers.

Can I eat before class? It is recommended that you practice yoga on an empty stomach; however, if you need to eat, have a light snack 1-2 hours before class.

Do you have to be really flexible to practice yoga? Absolutely not! Most of the poses can be modified to suit your level of flexibility, and your range of flexibility will increase with a regular yoga practice. Yoga is very versatile and can be adapted to all kinds of abilities.StudioPic_2.jpg

What should I expect? You should expect to challenge yourself while stretching and lengthening your muscles. Many students note improved posture and increased relaxation resulting from their first class.

How do I clean my yoga mat? A new sticky mat will perform best once it has been "broken in". This will happen naturally with use, but you may prefer to achieve this result more quickly by scrubbing the mat with a brush and equal parts warm water and vinegar; you can tumble dry it in a dryer for five to ten minutes or air dry and blot with a soft cloth. This will add friction to the surface of your new mat. You can also use a front-loading washing machine with a little liquid detergent on cold cycle. Place in the dryer on low temperature for five to ten minutes, or let air dry. Please always refer to the manufacturer's directions when cleaning a yoga mat.

If you are using a JADE YOGA mat, do not leave in the sun to dry or use any mat cleaners with oils (i.e. tea tree) as it will break down the natural rubber. The best way to dry a JADE mat is to wash in the bathtub with mild soap (like baby shampoo). Roll the wet mat in a towel, step on the towel to absorb the excess water then hang over a curtain rod to air dry.
